Gothic Quarter Tours

Gothic Quarter Tour Meeting Points

Almost no Gothic Quarter tour starts at the Cathedral. Each Gothic Quarter walking tour meets at its own named spot around the edge of the old city, from Plaça de Catalunya to El Born, and finding it five minutes before the start is most of the battle. Here is where each one meets, and how to get there.

Plaça de Catalunya and Carrer de Fontanella

Plaça de Catalunya is the big square at the top of La Rambla, served by metro lines L1 and L3. Several tours start around it, because it is easy to reach from anywhere in the city.

From here you walk down Avinguda del Portal de l'Àngel and reach the Cathedral in about ten minutes, which is the route most of these walks take first.

Pla de la Seu, by the Cathedral

The tourist information office at Pla de la Seu 2 stands beside Barcelona Cathedral. The walk run by the city's tourist board starts here, and it is the only tour that meets in front of the Cathedral itself. Jaume I on line L4 is the nearest metro stop.

Note that this walk is non-refundable and cannot be changed, so be sure of your date before you book it.

Plaça de Sant Jaume

The square of the Catalan government and the city hall is the evening meeting point for the tapas and wine walk. The address is Plaça de Sant Jaume 6. Arrive from the Cathedral down Carrer del Bisbe, or from Jaume I station along Carrer de Jaume I. The midday version of the same walk meets on La Rambla instead, so check which option you booked.

La Rambla

La Rambla is long, so the number matters. Liceu on line L3 is the stop for the middle of it.

Plaça Reial

The bike and e-bike tour meets at the fountain in the centre of Plaça Reial, the arcaded square just off La Rambla. Bikes, helmets and child seats are handed out from there. Liceu station is a few minutes' walk.

Inside the lanes: Vuit de Març and Correu Vell

Some walks start inside the quarter itself, on streets your phone map finds more easily than your eyes do. The walk with ten or more sights meets on Plaça del Vuit de Març. The Segway tour meets at Carrer del Correu Vell 6, where helmets and a supervised training session come before the ride. The introduction walk meets outside the Old Town Post Office, and the ghost walk meets at the Traveller's Nest bar. Open the location pin on your voucher before you set off.

Where El Born starts

One small-group walk starts across Via Laietana, at Passeig de Picasso 13 in El Born, and works back into the Gothic Quarter. Jaume I on line L4 is the closest metro stop. The layout of both districts is on the Gothic Quarter map.

Hotel pickup

Only the full-day tour of Barcelona picks you up, from your hotel or apartment in the city between 8 and 9am. Every walk and tapas tour meets at a named spot, and you make your own way there. The day tours that add the Sagrada Familia also ask for passport or ID details at booking, so have them ready.

If you are late

Aim to arrive ten minutes early. Groups set off on time, and at least one operator treats anyone more than ten minutes late as a missed tour. If you are running late, call the number on your voucher before the start, not after. A missed start is not covered by free cancellation, which ends 24 hours before.

Find your tour, then open the pin on your voucher. What to wear and bring is on visiting the Gothic Quarter.
